In an effort to address the problem of hunger and malnutrition faced by many, Food Lover’s Market has launched a month-long in-store campaign through which they want to provide one million meals to vulnerable South Africans.
As the Hunger Month campaign enters its second year, Food Lover’s Market, in partnership with Tru-Cape Fruit Marketing, SIMPL Juice and Rugani, will join forces with FoodForward SA to raise hunger awareness during the month of May, culminating on World Hunger Day (28 May).
By purchasing selected products at the store between 1 and 28 May, shoppers will be able to contribute 79c each to help FoodForward SA provide one hungry South African with a meal.
“More than 14 million vulnerable people go hungry each day in South Africa, indicating that food insecurity is a real problem faced by a significant portion of our population. With the help of Food Lover’s Market, their generous partners and shoppers, we can help address this problem with the funds raised through the World Hunger Day campaign,” said Andy du Plessis, managing director of FoodForward SA.
In addition to the campaign, Food Lover’s Market will also donate 1% of its overall sales on World Hunger Day towards the Hunger Month campaign.
Last year, the campaign raised R243 937, which contributed to the provision of 280 000 meals.
This year, Food Lover’s Market said that they want to exceed far over R250 000, especially with the involvement of Tru-Cape Fruit Marketing, Rugani and SIMPL Juices.
