The Africa Rice Center (AfricaRice) is seeking a highly qualified Rice Mechanization expert to be based at AfricaRice, Cotonou, Benin.

About AfricaRice
AfricaRice is one of the 15 international agricultural research Centers that are members of the CGIAR Consortium. It is also an autonomous intergovernmental association of African member countries.

Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Program Leader of the Rice Sector Development Program, the successful candidate will:
(i) Develop and nurture a strong network of partners involved in agricultural mechanization for rice-based systems in SSA;
(ii) Conduct a needs assessment for agricultural mechanization and available technology in Africa;
(iii) Organize travel to Asia and Latin America by key mechanization stakeholders to help match needs assessments in sub-Saharan Africa with available technology in Asia and Latin America;
(iv) Collaborate with local partners (private sectors, financial institutions, etc.) to identify options for financing the local production and marketing of farm equipment
(v) Organize training on the local production and development of small-scale agricultural equipment for rice-based systems in sub-Saharan Africa;
(vi) Pro-actively facilitate the dissemination of adapted agricultural equipment from land preparation to harvest and post-harvest practices in rice-based systems;
(vii) Assist in the preparation of annual work plans, budgets and technical and financial reports of the project;
(viii) Undertake any other duties as required by the needs of the Center.

Qualifications/Selection Criteria
Education: MSc in Agricultural Engineering or another related field.
Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years postgraduate experience in farm mechanization.
Willingness to travel frequently

Language
Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French would be a distinct advantage.
